USA NAMES FIRST PATHWAY SCIENCE SCHOLARS; NEW GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM TO INCREASE TEACHERS IN LOCAL SCHOOLS

The New Pathway to Science Scholarship Program will increase the number of science teachers in local public schools by awarding major graduate scholarships to students with bachelor's degrees in science-related fields.

Seven Pathway to Science Scholars were chosen and all of them received their degrees in biology from the USA's College of Arts and Sciences.  This year's scholars are:  Alicia Butts, Candice Goff, Peter Kuper, Tami May, Ashley Velazquez, Jeanell Calhoun, Elexisca Morriessette, and Charlotte Amalie.

Nearly 1,900 students are enrolled in USA's College of Education.  The college has awarded more than 17,500 degrees throughout its history, with 85% of the teachers and administrators employed by public schools in Mobile and Baldwin counties receiving at least one degree or certificate from the University.
